When You Glow, It Shows
With a new year comes resolutions that we swear we are going to keep. I commend everyone out there that holds true to their promise, but for myself, I often give up on my resolution come February. So, this year, why not make a resolution that you can keep, and one that would completely benefit you and your hair health? I believe that self-care is nothing less than self-respect, and haircare is a simple way to repair and refresh. We really don’t give ourselves enough time or energy – especially all of you parents who are juggling lots of demands and being pulled in all directions. However, as the saying goes, we can’t pour from an empty cup. So, it's time to fill yours up!
I’m not suggesting you make a day full of services at a salon, but by all means, don’t let me stop you if this is on your wishlist. Remember, taking time for yourself is not vanity, but an essential aspect of giving yourself the love and attention that you need and deserve. Self-care helps to protect the energy that we need in order to thrive in our lives. It also positively contributes to managing stress and health.
After all, how we treat our hair is often reminiscent of how we sometimes treat ourselves - with little patience or care. Remember, self-care will make you feel more confident and positive, and when you feel good about yourself, then you are more likely to make the others around you feel that positive, happy vibe. Hair care can take place at the salon when you book an appointment. But, it can also take place in the comfort of your home.
Set aside a small block of time each week to either do a scalp treatment. For this I recommend True Enlightenment Scalp Scrub by Innersense. Or, maybe you try a hair mask. My picks are Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask, and Kevin Murphy Hydrate-Me, or Young Again Masque. All four of these products can be found in our salon on Fayette Street.
Honestly, the first step to hair care is truly taking care of the root of the problem, which is the scalp. A healthy scalp means healthy hair! A scalp treatment also boosts blood circulation to your face and head, and to the hair follicles, which means it helps to create optimal conditions for hair growth.
If you opt for a hair mask, it will help nourish and replenish your tresses. A mask can strengthen the bonds of your hair to make your strands stronger and more resilient to the elements that cause breakage. Strong, healthy hair creates shiny, luminous locks! So, mark out some time in your calendar to do these two treatments once a week. These are two easy steps toward hair health, and they come in a relaxing form of self-care. You are worth it!
If you can manage to find some time to visit a salon, then do it! If you haven’t cut your hair in ages, then give it a refresh. Trimming off dead ends will make your hair breathe new life, and it will also help it grow at a faster rate. Or, make a slight or drastic change with your cut or color. Be bold. Be subtle. Be you!
Salons also offer amazing hair treatments that you can add on to your traditional services. Currently, my favorite indulgent add-on treatments include: Kevin Murphy Conditioning Treatments, Malibu C Crystal Gel Treatment, Treat.Me conditioning service, Olaplex Mask, and the Olaplex Color Add-in Treatment, just to name a few. Keep in mind, these services are luxurious, but the price tag is affordable. Almost all of our special treatments at Salon deZEN ring in at only $35. I would highly recommend asking your stylist what treatment would benefit your hair best, as there are so many different options. You will be amazed at the changes a stylist-tailored treatment can do for your locks. Salon appointments can truly be therapeutic, and many of our clients say that they feel uplifted, revived, and refreshed when they leave ZEN.
I believe that 2023 should be the year of putting ourselves first. We need to take the time to celebrate the little and big things in our lives, but also honor ourselves along the way. Self-care is anything but selfish. When we invest in our wellness, we're able to be the best version of ourselves, and we’re able to extend the same well-being to those around us. After all, when we look our best, we feel our best. Let’s up your glow levels in 2023, because when you glow it shows.
Cheers to achieving the glossiest, healthiest, and strongest hair ever!
