Dry Shampoo: Which One is Right for You?

If there’s one product category that is not getting enough love right now, it’s dry shampoo. Only a few years ago, the only place you could find dry shampoo was the “Pssssst” brand of the 80s on the bottom shelf at the drug store. But this class of products has recently exploded onto the market with better ingredients, a multitude of choices, and more targeted products for all hair types. If you don’t have dry shampoo in your arsenal of go-to products, it’s time to feel the love. One reason dry shampoos are not getting the street cred they deserve is that the name doesn’t do them justice. Dry shampoos are more than a way to make your hair look and feel clean without water; they are also multitaskers, giving hair texture, prolonging blow outs, and releasing you from the constraints of the time-consuming wash, rinse, repeat routine. For those of us with fine, thin hair, there used to be no choice – a daily shampoo and blow dry were non-negotiable. Enter Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. This natural formulation adds texture and absorbs any oil or perspiration. This is my go-to when I don’t have time to wash my hair after a workout but still need to look polished. Simply spray the powder on the roots and crown and let sit for two minutes, allowing the powder to absorb any excess oil or sweat. Then just brush out and style the way your normally do. For people with darker hair, the Natural Tint Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk is the way to go. The results are so gratifying you will soon look forward to your “dry shampoo days.”The Moroccan Oil brand has been around for a while and is easily recognizable for the aqua blue and orange labels, but their recently introduced line of dry shampoos is revolutionizing the category. Offering products for light and dark hair tones, and a formulation that includes ultra-fine oil-absorbing rice starch, which removes build-up and gets rid of any odors, the Moroccan Oil products are ideal for extending the life of your blow out. To use this product, spray at the roots, let dry for three minutes, massage into hair, then brush. I have been able to extend my blow out a day or two longer than usual with Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo for Light Hair Tones. And, my hair looks and smells fresh, clean, and just washed. One of my favorite benefits of using dry shampoo is that it gives you texture without the frizz. Bumble and Bumble’s line is great for this. Their Prêt-à-Powder is one of my favorites because of the fullness it produces. I have even used it on freshly washed and dried hair because it just gives hair that extra oomph. This product is one of the few that is not a spray; instead, it’s a finely milled powder which you sprinkle onto your roots, or even on your brush, and massage through the hair. A curly-haired pal says she likes it because it relaxes her curls a little bit. Bumble also has sprays: Blondish or Brownish Hair Powder. These are amazing for touching up gray hair in between colorings, in addition to giving great volume. The subtle scent is an added bonus. And who wouldn’t want Living Proof? Living Proof Dry Shampoo is a product that can be used on all hair colors and textures. This product has time-released fragrance to deliver a light, clean scent throughout the day. This product is great for extending blowouts, as well as perfecting “second day styles” like buns, braids, or chignons. The powder is colorless but adds some texture and volume, which is a plus for that tousled look that is so popular right now. These new products are revolutionizing the way we women maintain our hair styles. Even better, they save time, and keep hair looking glamorous, even in a pinch. So, go ahead, show these products some love and your hair will love you for it.
