Wrinkles Schminkles

You know the saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” You’ve heard it a thousand times and while it’s definitely a phrase to live by when it comes to people, it’s often one I ignore when it comes to products. I can’t help it. I am most definitely influenced by packaging. As I get older, I realize that I want to surround myself with items that speak to my aesthetic. There may be a fantastic cream, but if the packaging is cheap or overly ornate…I generally pass it by. So, when I received a box in the mail from a company called Wrinkles Schminkles, I have to admit, I didn’t open it right away. I hadn’t yet laid eyes on the packaging, but the name certainly didn’t convey gravitas. Then came the emails. “Have you tried it yet?” Every week, another email. “Have you tried it yet?”  Not irritated emails. Not pushy emails. Just eager emails.  “Okay, I’ll try it!” So, I opened the box and what I found inside was intriguing. Flat cardboard envelopes with medical-grade silicone pads. These pads are to be worn at night while you sleep. They keep your skin from being folded and creased while you move around. If you are a side or stomach sleeper, this can be a specifically troublesome situation. Furthermore, the silicone alone helps to retain moisture by keeping the moisture that is drawn up from the lower layers of your skin from escaping out your dermal layer while you sleep. This keeps the area hydrated.I am no stranger to eye gels, but these adhere much more firmly. I placed the eye pads under each eye, then put the chest pad and the forehead pad on. I figured, let me see how this works and I’ll look a little crazy for just one night. They didn’t bother me at all while I slept except I apparently hadn’t completely cleaned my chest area of all oils before placing the pad on. During the night, it kept coming off one side. It is important to make sure your skin is completely clean of all oils before applying the pads. It bugged me a little that I couldn’t put my skincare on before bed because my skin had to be completely clean. I think next time I will put the pads on and then put my skincare on around them.I was especially excited to try the eye pads because I am a side sleeper and the crease on my left eye from where I’m constantly squishing it into my pillow is becoming permanent. My dermatologist looked at me once and said “so you sleep on your left side.” Apparently, it’s quite obvious. I always notice the crease is really bad when I wake up and then gets a bit milder as they day progresses. I’m not talking about a sheet mark. I have a silk pillowcase which has eliminated those. I am talking about the fold that happens where my eye hits the pillow. I’ve tried to train myself to sleep on my back. It just isn’t in the cards. When I woke up and took off the pads, I was a bit conflicted. The area that normally has the fold was smooth. That was exciting, but the inner eye area seemed to have more little lines. I immediately put on a firming eye cream and those lines went away in minutes. I felt better, but the outline of the pad had definitely left a crescent shaped mark on my left side. That stayed with me for about an hour. But I was so enamored of not seeing the fold at the corner of my eye that I wore them again that night. This time I changed the way they sat on the under eye area a bit. The next morning, the exact same thing. I followed again with the firming eye cream and was happy with the result. I feel like with continued use, I may actually eliminate that wrinkle. The forehead and chest pads are no brainers. Those made sure that absolutely no lines were visible. If you’re a side sleeper and wake up with chest creases, you absolutely must get this product.Overall, I think I’m all in. I’m going to wear them again tonight. Their claim is that with continued use, you actually aren’t just preventing future lines, you are actually minimizing the appearance of the lines you already have. The best part is they are re-usable up to 30 times per pad. That’s not bad for the price of $30.The bad part? Just that, as usual, I got excited and told you about the product now and they aren’t due in store for another week. The good part? We are taking pre-orders. So, call us and reserve yours today. Because who wants wrinkles? I say wrinkles, schminkles…
