You’re Doing It Wrong: Perfume Edition

You’re about to walk out the door and the last thing you do is spritz your neck and wrists with your favorite perfume. You rub your wrists together and maybe you spray it in the air French style and walk through it. You put the bottle down and walk out the door. An hour later your scent is gone. What happened? The first mistake we make is putting the scent on our wrists. We wash our hands an average of nine times a day. Some of us more. That fragrance on your wrist doesn’t make it past the second wash. Instead, place the fragrance on targeted areas that heat up during the day. This will help the fragrance emit all day. Behind the neck and knees, on your midriff, your calves and ankles, as well as a brushing a bit into your hair will be more effective. The second mistake we make is rubbing our wrists together. Where did we learn to do that? We think that by rubbing our wrists together the scent will dive deeper into our skin and make it last longer. The truth is that we are actually wiping away the top notes and causing them to evaporate. The top notes are the lightest and rubbing them down means losing part of the fragrance you chose. Rather than rub your wrists together, dab the fragrance on lightly pressing the scent into your skin.Oilier skin types hold scent longer. If you have drier skin, use an unscented moisturizer or a bit of Vaseline on the skin before you dab the fragrance on.Still can’t manage to make it last? Try a perfume oil. The oil will last longer than the spray version and is easier to carry with you than a big bottle. We love kai perfume oil in both original and rose scents. If you can’t part with the bottled scent, spray some cotton balls with the fragrance and place them in a ziplock bag. Pull one out later in the day and apply it with the cotton ball.Hopefully, with these tips you’ll be enjoying your fragrance from morning to night!
