We are a custom residential architecture firm located in Old Town, Alexandria. We pride ourselves on designing notable homes in the wider Alexandria community, and creating an exceptional experience for each client. For us, amazing designs, happy clients, and strong project management all go hand-in-hand.
Our name “Convene” reflects our mission and values centered on collaboration and bringing people together to create beautiful spaces. Our team has expertise in a range of aesthetics – from modern to traditional – and we love working with clients who are excited about design and the way it can transform their homes and lives.

The Art of the Possible
Interested in working with a custom residential architect, but don’t know how or when to start? We’d love to hear from you! Our first step is to connect over the phone to learn more about your project, and tell you a bit about the process of working with an architect in general and our firm more specifically. The architectural journey is a complex process, and we’ll explain the steps we take to make it manageable.
We begin every project by collecting inspiration photos plus notes about how you’d like to use your new spaces so we can understand your hopes and dreams. We show you potential layouts, develop preliminary budgets, and provide visuals so you can see how your home could look and function. We also work hand-in-hand with your interior designer if you decide to collaborate with one.
We connect you with experienced builders, and create detailed blueprints that bring your home to life (and allow us to obtain building permits!) During construction, we collaborate with your design team and general contractor as your home is being transformed.
Listening and communicating is paramount to all we do. We solicit feedback throughout the process, and use that input to guide each step of our work. In the end, we’re successful if our clients are inspired by their homes, and loved the journey to create them
About Laura and Ruben
Convene Co-Owners and Principal Architects, Laura Campbell and Ruben Santos, met at the University of Virginia where they were classmates in the School of Architecture. Laura received her Master's in Architecture from Harvard University, and Ruben obtained his Master’s in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. Laura and Ruben each bring more than two decades of architecture experience to their work.
