Women’s Therapy & Wellness

Women’s Therapy & Wellness (WTW) is a virtual Virginia and D.C. mental health practice co-owned by Northern Virginia natives, Katelin Buchanan and Kristen Mahoney.  WTW was started out of a desire to destigmatize women's mental health concerns and provide women with the unique, quality care and unconditional support they deserve. Whether you are going through a major life transition (career changes, relationship issues, grief), experiencing difficulty starting a family (infertility, pregnancy loss, perinatal mood/anxiety disorders), adjusting to motherhood (postpartum depression and/or anxiety, parenting stress), or all of the above, WTW is here to support you. Katelin and Kristen's personal struggles and professional training have led to their passion in serving women looking for help navigating life’s challenges.

Kristen Mahoney, MA, LPC

Kristen Mahoney, co-owner of Women's Therapy and Wellness, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Supervisor in Virginia and Washington, DC. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from East Carolina University and her Master of Arts degree in clinical mental health counseling from Marymount University.

Kristen has worked with women to address a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and issues related to transition and adjustment. Of particular interest is helping women cope with life transitions including career changes, relationship shifts, parenting challenges, and supporting mothers who have children going through physical and/or mental health concerns.

Kristen also has a passion in supporting clients experiencing reproductive mental health concerns including perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, and pregnancy loss. She continues to grow her expertise in reproductive mental health through self-study, professional consultation groups, and continuing education in order to best serve her clients.

Kristen is an Alexandria native, and after a few short stints in North Carolina and Arlington, VA, she has settled back into the Alexandria area with her husband, son, and mini golden doodle.

Katelin Buchanan, LPC

Katelin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with extensive experience treating individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders, and major life transitions. Katelin is particularly passionate about working with women who are coping with infertility, pregnancy loss, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Combining post-graduate training in fertility counseling and PMADs with years of firsthand, personal experience, Katelin strongly believes that counseling is an invaluable tool for women navigating through their motherhood journey and beyond.

Katelin earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Duke University, as well as her Master's degree in Counseling from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has completed advanced perinatal mental health training through Postpartum Support International and is trained in both EMDR and perinatal IPT. The majority of Katelin's career has been spent providing care in a hospital system’s inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient levels of care. After becoming a mother herself while living in San Diego, she joined a private practice specializing in women's reproductive health which solidified her passion for working with this incredibly important (and often underserved) population. After excitedly returning back to Virginia a year ago, she joined her dear friend, Kristen Mahoney, to co-create Women's Therapy & Wellness, LLC, in order to continue supporting women in Virginia.

Katelin enjoys running outdoors, practicing yoga, and spending time with her husband and three children.
