New Line Alert: Shebobo
Our new line of bags from Squeeze de Citron flew out of here faster than I anticipated. Due to the long production process (each bag takes a week to make), it’ll be a bit before I can get my reorder in. The demand for these bags is insane. However, people are still looking for fun beach and summer bags so, I had to find something that would fit the bill until the reorder gets here. Enter Shebobo!
Shebobo was founded in 2011 by Kirsten Schipper in San Francisco. The Shebobo consists of over 400 artisans that work in collectives around the countryside of Madagascar. All of their products are made from all-natural fibers to include raffia, sisal, and banana palm. These fibers are renewable, sustainable, and biodegradable. The raw materials are hand dyed and prepared for looming by splitting the palm leaves into a thread-like ball of “yarn.” The artisans use the same weaving techniques they’ve been using for over 100 years.
I’m a sucker for colorful bags with tassels, so when I was looking for a new line, these immediately called my name. It’s always hard to decide when I can’t see actual samples and have to go by pictures alone. They just arrived, and I’m truly happy with the beautiful colors and craftsmanship. The Mega Straw bag has leather handles, drawstring closure and is made from raffia. It is the perfect companion for the mom on the go. We all know who ends up lugging the extra towels, etc.
The Bolinas bag is made from raffia and banana palm and has leather handles, leather trim, and a drawstring closure.
The Stinson bag is made from sisal, has leather handles and a drawstring closure. I particularly love the tassels on these bags.
