2nd Annual Uptown Block Party!

Last year saw such a large influx of new businesses to the 1000, 1100, and 1200 blocks of King St. that we had to celebrate with the first ever Uptown Block Party. That little event was such a big hit that we wanted to do it again this year. On November 3rd from 11am-4pm we invite you to the 2nd annual Uptown Block Party. Using the feedback we got last year, we have made this year’s block party even bigger and better! The party is happening in 26 of your favorite Old Town businesses and on North Fayette, where the street will be blocked off for additional fun. Food specials, gifts with purchase, craft activities, discounts, and even a braid bar are all the things you can expect to find in the participating businesses. And, on Fayette there will be a fire truck, Rainbow Rock Band, a DJ, a moon bounce, free samples from Meggrolls’ food truck, the Mobile Art Lab, balloon artistry, face painting, a photo booth, Happy Dough Lucky play dough fun, field day activities with Baroody Camps, and a raffle drawing for wonderful prizes from participating stores with all the proceeds going to George Washington Middle School’s orchestra. Please see the schedule below for the times of each activity and a list of participating stores and their in-store events. (The DJ and moon bounce were late additions, but you will find them there all day.)So, as you can plainly see, this is going to be one fun event! To stay in the know and see a few photos from last year’s Upton Block Party, please follow our Facebook page. Oh, and share with all your friends. We look forward to seeing you on November 3rd!

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
