5 Style Rules To Mix Colors & Patterns
I have always enjoyed consignment shopping because of the element of surprise in finding unique pieces. The amount of variety from style to brand and everything in between offers unique and functional pieces that span every age and dress size. When items arrive on consignment at Twist, I love experimenting with different colors and patterns that pair well together. It’s certainly a fun exercise when you several hundred items of clothing at your disposal organized on the racks by color. A lively mix of different patterns and prints makes for a fun and interesting style. It is a fun and easy exercise to mix and match items in your wardrobe to change the look of any outfit and create a unique look for yourself this summer. That said, it is important to choose patterns that blend well. What’s your favorite print? Do you tend to wear stripes, florals, polka dots, gingham...or all the above? Just follow these five simple guidelines and you'll be mixing — and matching — before you know it.
1. Treat stripes as a neutral.
2. Choose one dominant and one accent print.
3. Reach for complementary patterns that are in the same color story.
4. Pair neutrals with colorful prints.
5. Polka dots and stripes always work.
