A Psychological Play for Fall

Bright coats are a psychological boost. There’s no denying the influence that color has on us. Whether you are choosing paint for interiors or a new case for your phone, we tend to make color choices based on how they make us feel. As one who doesn’t take kindly to cold weather, I like to arm myself and my wardrobe with strategic blasts of color. It might seem hard to make an outerwear purchase before you have even made plans for your Labor Day weekend, but this is the best time to purchase coats. Not only are the selections rich with styles from every designer, but you have the chance to score the perfect color for your wardrobe. When I work with women in their closets, I will inevitably ask them about their fall and winter outerwear. If they have yet to own a stunning coat in a flattering hue, I’ll make sure to add that to our shopping list. After all, we wear coats over all the other fabulous clothing we purchase. Coats will undoubtedly cover my cost-per-wear rule of thumb, too.One color I am always on the search for is Mediterranean Blue. There are many versions of blue. I tend to love the ones that fall slightly into the realm of green. Smythe satisfied my need for the Mediterranean this fall with their Peaked Lapel Coat in Zephyr. As part of the fall buying team, I was 100 percent behind this style and color. The beauty of a great blue coat resides in its ability to go over prints as well as make an impact with black. For women who have an abundance of black in their wardrobe, I would recommend this coat or one similar. Another great cue for blues is to take a look at your eye color. Blue eyes will always pop with a stunning blue coat.[nemus_slider id="51978"]

Tara Jarmon has also presented us with another fabulous hue for fall. The Draped Car Coat in Azalea is a rich strawberry hue. I love how it works with my other iconic staple, the blue Oxford! This color also looks amazing with denim. If your fall and winter wardrobe consists of predominantly denim, this would be a great coat to consider. I love how it pairs with charcoal gray and ivory, too. When I’m helping women select coats for their wardrobe, I advise them to think of their color stories. While black would work with the azalea, I would prefer charcoal or gray and adding black with accessories. Having a sneak preview on footwear for the season, both of these coats would benefit from snow leopard, too![nemus_slider id="51981"]
And lastly, my insider's involvement can give you a heads up to one more coat that will soon arrive at TSALT. This would be another pick from my role on the buying team last February. It doesn’t hurt to have a stylist on the team! The Russel Coat from Elizabeth and James is a more subtle approach to color, works well with black, and will be arriving shortly at TSALT!
