Advent Calendars Galore

It’s unbelievable how quickly December is sneaking upon us! Hopefully, you all were able to shop our Holiday Unveiling last week. If not, we hope you’ll stop in and see our winter wonderland soon! Filling our shelves (and trees!) with holiday treasures is an absolute joy and a bit of a blur. We are so delighted with the gifts and decorations we found this year and we hope you are too!

We love daily rituals and we really, really love the holidays. Advent calendars are a fun December ritual for kids and adults to pace the Christmas countdown and build anticipation. We found some really good options this year for both Penny Post and Red Barn Mercantile. You will not believe how sweet some of these are. We have several options that all double as darling decorations and a few that have extra special surprises inside, some edible and some that will last for years to come.

First up, Penny Post! We don’t want to say we have a favorite, but a caramel countdown to Christmas is definitely in the running. Diamine’s Inkvent calendar is also a strong contender with a surprise ink color for 25 days, all of which are new, never-before-seen colors from Diamine.

Red Barn Mercantile has an incredibly sweet collection as well, some that can be passed down for generations! If you’re looking to spoil any littles this year, we have two suitcase-style advent calendars that are sure to delight - one with wooden holiday village figures and another with dogs! Both will provide joy well through the holiday season.

Whether you’re looking for a classic pop-out style countdown calendar or something with a little more flair, we have you covered! Happy shopping and happy, happy holidays to you and yours.

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
