Join the Fun at The Alexandria Spring Fling: An Old Town Block Party on Saturday, May 3, 2025

Remember the Old Town Boutique District? It faded away a few years ago when we merged with another business group that is now also gone. Then we had support from another city organization that has since kicked retail marketing in Old Town to the curb, so guess what? The Old Town boutique community has once again joined together to help continue to bring great events and activities that highlight our small businesses. 

What’s that old axiom – If you want something done, do it yourself? The retailers in Old Town started Plaid Friday, The Alexandria Sidewalk Sale, The Alexandria Warehouse Sale and Alexandria Stylebook, and now we are adding a new spring event to the mix: The Alexandria Spring Fling: An Old Town Block Party. 

What is a spring fling, you ask? Well, it’s a great day to celebrate and shop in Old Town Alexandria. There are 30 stores participating and each one has a special event or trunk show they’re hosting. You can stop by 529 Kids Consign and Mint Condition for a snow cone or Pippin Toy Co. for story hour and spring crafting, Monday’s Child for a balloon artist, ERA or Red Barn Mercantile for “make your own flower bouquets” or a wine tasting at Wine Gallery 108. That is just a few of the fun activities and promotions that will be happening on May 3 from 10am to 5pm. 

My store, The Hive/The Shoe Hive will have a “scratch and save” promotion along with a snack bar of treats just like the ones we have when we visit our favorite vendors in NYC. See a listing of all the events; each store will also have a map to make it easier to find your favorite spots. We broke each area down into 4 “blocks” as well. Pick a block and hit your stride. Each block is its own color and we will have balloons out to mark each spot. 

Mark your calendars and make a day of it so you can visit all 4 block parties. It’s a great way to explore new stores you haven’t seen before, and there are also so many great new stores like Old House Provisions and the newest addition, Lowery’s Dial.
