KTI Project Underway: A Basement Built for Living, Hosting, and Everything In Between

At Kristin Try Interiors, we believe that your home should feel deeply personal, beautifully functional, and full of the details that make your life easier—and more joyful. That philosophy is on full display in our newest under-construction project, and we’re excited to give Alexandria Stylebook readers a behind-the-scenes look at what’s to come.

This basement renovation is part of a full-home project with a dynamic family that lives, hosts, and celebrates with intention. Their home is a revolving door of energy—kids, neighbors, colleagues, and book club friends—and this lower level was designed to keep up with it all while reflecting their fearless love of color and thoughtful design.

The Vision: Comfort, Color, and Complete Functionality

We’re transforming this unfinished basement into a fully loaded extension of the home. Every square foot has a purpose:

  • A cozy TV room for movie nights and curling up with good books next to the fireplace.

  • A fully functional kitchenette that’s perfect for hosting friends and mixing cocktails during book club, and a large sink and storage for large serving platters.

  • A guest room and full bath so overnight visitors feel truly welcomed.

  • A workout room that’s both energizing and inspiring, including aerial silks fun, too!

  • A smartly tucked-in pantry and colorful homework area that keep life organized and flowing.

This family isn’t afraid to embrace personality. From rich paint colors to bold lighting and clever built-ins, we’re layering in beauty and practicality at every turn. We worked closely with our clients to understand how they live—and just as importantly, how they want to feel in their home.

A Collaborative, Local Effort

One of our favorite aspects of this project is the collaboration. From early brainstorming to real-time walk-throughs with our trusted contractors and talented local vendors, this is a team effort. We’re proud to work with Alexandria-area makers and builders who understand how to deliver quality craftsmanship with a personal touch.

This project is about more than just good design—it’s about creating a space that supports connection, comfort, and community.

Watch the Reel: A Sneak Peek Behind the Scenes

We recently partnered with Alexandria Stylebook to share a reel highlighting the space in progress. You’ll hear a bit about our process, see what’s underway, and get a feel for how we design with both heart and function.

👉 Watch the reel and follow along as we bring this family’s basement to life.

And stay tuned for the full reveal—you won’t want to miss the transformation!
