Alexandria Spring Roundup

There’s a lot to look forward to in Alexandria's spring season. Between celebrity tall ships, new breweries, and boutiques, there will be something for everyone. Here’s our roundup for what excites us the most...

Waterfront Park Making Waves

Everyone has been buzzing with anticipation for the waterfront transformation in Old Town. The opening kicks off with the expanded new park area at the foot of King Street. This will connect Old Town’s historic retail corridor with the water. The expanded Waterfront Park will be opening in March with a $100,000 public art installation. The exhibit, Mirror Mirror, is an interactive piece that responds to sounds with light. This will be the first of a temporary series of waterfront installations.

Tall Ships Are the Best Ships

Who hasn’t wanted to stand on a tall ship, sails blowing in the wind and ask, “Why is the rum gone?” Now you can! Get a tour of one of the U.S. Continental Navy’s first ships, which also appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean. There might not be rum, but there will definitely be beer. The exhibit will feature educational programs and beer cruises presented by Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Company. Also, did you know the ship was captained by John Paul Jones, the father of the U.S. Navy, under the leadership of General George Washington? We have a feeling he would’ve given Jack Sparrow a run for his money.

Breweries and Beer Gardens, Oh My!

Oh, hoppy day! Alexandria is about to be the latest home to some of the best breweries and beer gardens. Aslin Beer Co. will be moving its headquarters to Alexandria’s West End. Lost Boy Cidery, the first urban craft cidery in Northern Virginia, will launch this summer in the Carlyle neighborhood. Being outdoors more of your scene? Augie’s Mussel House on the Patio will feature an expansive outdoor patio and beers from around the world. We’ll cheers to that!

Shopping Is Our Cardio

530 First Street is about to be the King of the North. Located in North Old Town, it is the perfect spot for new restaurants, apartments, and shops. It will be the next catalyst in the evolution of Old Town as EDENS' creative design and development strategies contribute to an authentic and vibrant lifestyle experience in a flourishing, historic community. 530 First Street will include 50,000 square feet in retail, 240 parking spaces, and 232 residential units. Some of eateries and shops include Sisters Thai, OAK Steakhouse, Row House, and West Elm.
