3 Ways To Achieve Your Wellness Goals Even While On Vacation

The days are getting longer, and the weather is (slowly, but surely) getting warmer, which only means one thing. Spring and summer vacation season is nearly here! It’s easy to press pause on our goals to enjoy much-needed downtime, but what if I told you that we can enjoy our vacations to the fullest while still remaining consistent with our wellness?

If you’re the type that already has their gym day pass purchased before your plane lands, take this time back and go ahead and click out of the article. But, if you’re like most of us, it can be difficult to find the motivation to work out when you could be in a lounge chair or spending quality time with your friends and family.

Here’s the good news. We don’t have to choose between spending time with our family and putting ourselves and our wellness goals first. When we plan accordingly, and manage our calendar with our core values first, we can maximize our vacation and feel great in our bodies with the satisfaction that comes from remaining true to our goals.

Of course, staying in a routine during a vacation can be difficult. We don’t ever want to say no to a potential fun last-minute plan or excursion! However, wellness can happen right where our feet are, we don’t need fancy equipment or a set-aside hour. We just need ourselves and a little determination.

Here are my three favorite ways to stay true to our wellness, even while on a much-deserved vacay.

  1. Enjoy the nightlife, but know when it’s time to hit the lights.

Did you know that new habits are more easily created when we are away from our normal environment? Vacation is the best time to start a new habit of prioritizing sleep! This doesn’t mean we have to “end the party early,” we just have to ensure we plan for 7 to 7.5 hours of uninterrupted z’s.

  2. Wake up a bit early, grab the whole family, and set out on an “exploration” walk.

What better way to enjoy your vacation than to explore the city you’re in? Get the family together family, grab a guidebook from the hotel lobby, and find new and exciting places you wouldn’t have seen otherwise. On foot, you’ll find hidden gems that would have just passed by if you were in a car! Between the fresh air, good conversation, and the joy of exploring a new place, this walk will prove to be much more than just great cardio!

  3. Live like a local and find a class you’ve never tried before.

Vacation is the time to be spontaneous. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, or HIIT, but couldn’t find the motivation to sign up at your local studio. Find a class at your destination and workout “like a local.” You’ll try something new, meet some fresh faces, and not have to worry about not being great on your first try because chances are you won’t see them until your next vacation!

Our vacations can be an opportunity to get our sleep on track, work on stress tolerance, find joy in movement, eat for fuel, and connect with our friends and family.

The goal of these three tips is to encourage you to find ways to make wellness fun! Wellness will only enhance your vacation, and you may even make habits for life.
