And After All, You're My Wonder Wall: How To Make That Blank Wall Pop

I love that song and was so excited when I found a way to incorporate it into this week's article (or at least the title). When it comes to making rooms in your home stand out, feature walls are a wonderful option. Feature walls serve so many purposes, including taking up blank space when you don't know what to do with a wall, making a room look larger and more interesting, and giving you a safe space to take a design risk. There are many ways to make feature walls, from something super safe to something more permanent. Here are some things to consider:

Paint: Painting a wall is the most immediate and least expensive way to make a blank wall pop. Plus, since paint can easily be changed, it is the perfect opportunity to take risks and try a bold color in your space. When picking out a paint color for your room, think about how you use the room and how you want the room to feel. For a smaller space, a dark, cool color like a deep blue or rich green will make the room feel larger, while a warm color will make the space feel cozier. Paint can be done on a blank wall or to add interest to built-ins like we did in this office.

Wood accents: Creating a custom wood wall is a great way to really make a room stand out. While this will be more labor-intensive and permanent, it has a huge impact. Wood paneling has been around forever. Using shiplap made the wood wall stylish again, and now we are seeing people get even more creative with how they use wood to jazz up a wall. We love the level of detail in this custom-reeded wall, and it gave us the opportunity to go bold with black paint without overwhelming the room.

Tile: While a tile wall doesn't work in every room in the house when used appropriately, it is about as stylish and chic as you can get. We love using oversized single slabs of marble tile where you can see prominent veins running through the natural stone. The best place to use tile is in the primary bathroom or in the living room around a fireplace feature.

Wallpaper: Wallpaper is a fun way to get creative and bring some pattern and interest to a room. Wallpaper can get expensive, so just doing one accent wall in a gorgeous wallpaper is a great way to give you that style without breaking the bank. We recommend color-matching your other walls by pulling directly from the wallpaper. This will bring the whole room together. Of course, if you want to splurge, I will never say no to a fully wallpapered room, especially when it comes to bringing some fun into a small powder room.
