And Just Like That…Colorful, Voluminous Sweaters Are Having Their Moment

I’ve been gushing over wool and knits from Argentinian makers since last fall when we brought hand-knit wool sweaters to American In Paris. We couldn’t help but notice that lately, this voluminous, textural style seems to be popping up even more. The Fall 2024 runways boasted texture, fringe, and volume. Givenchy and Gucci are just two of the many fashion houses that sent fringy sweaters down their Fall 2024 runway collections. And the trend isn’t going anywhere. Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2025 collection includes a strikingly similar version of our beloved Milana hand-tasseled sweater.

Most recently, Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted filming a scene of And Just Like That wearing a bright teal wooly sweater. Fashion editors and critics praised this look as a return to the quintessentially quirky Carrie Bradshaw style, but what they completely missed is that this sweater was custom commissioned from— you guessed it—an Argentinian knit maker, The Origin Of It All.

The Milana sweaters that we carry at American In Paris are hand-knit, hand-tasseled from Alpaca wool sourced and milled in Argentina. Because of its wool exports, perfect climate for sheep and vicuñas,  Argentina has South America’s best labs and technicians for analyzing and sorting fibers. Add to that the varied organized collectives of artisans and weavers and communities of indigenous people who have  been weaving since pre-Colonial times. On a recent trip to Argentina, I visited the Milana showroom which is the adult equivalent to being a kid in a candy shop. Spools upon spools of sumptuous, vivid colored yarn. Merino, angora, llama, mohair. It’s a kaleidoscope of limitless possibilities.

A signature and standout piece, these are the kind of sweaters you will own for life – and that’s why we keep bringing them back, season after season. Last winter, two guests (Samantha and Maria Elizabeth) showed up to Stylebook’s anniversary event wearing the bold-hued Milana sweater from our shop. Maria’s fuschia color is one of many currently in stock at the store.

If you’re looking for a specific hue, we can special order it. Visit us at American In Paris at 1225 King Street to explore the collection!
