Banjanan Brings The Color
Our clients are clamoring for more dresses - more so than for anything else we sell. Easy dresses that aren’t a t-shirt dress but still aren’t too fancy is the sweet spot right now. People want the perfect in-between option that seems to be the most difficult to find - and not too short on the hemline, either. This kind of dress is something you can wear to dinner or on the sidelines of a game and not be over-dressed or worried about it revealing too much.
I came across Banjanan in a showroom that represents various other lines we carry. I am not a big pattern person, but there was an ease about these and a happiness that drew me to it. The designer, Caroline Walker, started the brand back in 2015. She has a successful design career at places like J. Crew and Calvin Klein and decided to start her own line after her extensive world travels. Her fabrics are made by hand in India, as you can see in the video below. They are vibrant, and she explained her vision perfectly in Vogue - “After so many years in New York, I started to get the feeling everything was becoming homogenized. But here in Jaipur, it is the opposite - everything is slow. Some fabrics take weeks or a month to finish, and I thought, ‘What happened to the idea that something worth having is worth waiting for?’”
I think the arrival of this line is well worth the wait. If you are looking to add a little color into your wardrobe, look no more.
