Build Your Dream Coat: Marfa Stance Pop-Up in Alexandria

My Instagram algorithm gets me. About a year ago, it started serving me ads for Marfa Stance—the coolest coats I’d seen in ages. Naturally, I clicked, which only fueled the steady stream of Marfa content filling my phone. My sister soon noticed them too, and then came two signs: a store in Richmond hosted a Marfa Stance event, and Angelica walked in wearing one.

That sealed the deal, I knew we had to bring them here. After a year of searching, I finally connected with Marfa Stance, and I’m thrilled to announce they’ll be popping up at The Hive for two days only.

Here’s how it works: their team brings samples of coats and interchangeable collars and hoods so you can “build” your perfect dream coat. You place your order with Marfa Stance, and within about a week your custom creation arrives at your door.

We did a training session with their team, and let’s just say choosing was nearly impossible. I’m definitely getting one (the parachute bomber has my heart, though the pea coat is calling my name too). And then comes the collar decision—or maybe two. My coat closet is already bursting, but this brand is worth making room for.

To get a feel for their style, visit marfastance.com. But trust me—you’ll want to see and try these in person.

Owner | The Shoe Hive/The Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
