A Transformation of a 1940s Home: Building Bold in Beverley Hills
When it comes to modernizing a traditional home, it often requires a delicate balance between preserving its original charm and incorporating contemporary elements. This 1940s home in Beverley Hills, Alexandria, underwent a remarkable transformation thanks to the collaborative efforts of Convene Architecture and Marks-Woods.
A New Look for a Traditional Home
The architects at Convene Architecture envisioned a bold and memorable design that would not only enhance the home's aesthetic appeal but also accommodate the needs of an active family. By adding a pop-up extension to the rear of the house, they were able to create a spacious and functional living space while maintaining the original footprint.
A Dramatic Exterior
The exterior of the home was completely revamped with a combination of red brick, custom painted Hardie siding, and natural wood accents. This interplay of materials created a dynamic and visually striking facade that complements the surrounding natural environment. Our design team carefully considered the color scheme, opting for Benjamin Moore's Montpelier, Steel Wool, and Toucan Black to evoke a modern and moody feel that stands out in the traditional neighborhood.
A Serene Outdoor Retreat
The side patio was designed to be an inviting outdoor retreat, featuring flagstone surfaces, wood trim, and cable railings. These elements create a treehouse-like atmosphere while preserving unobstructed views of the lush surroundings.
A Collaborative Effort
The success of this project was a result of the seamless collaboration between Convene Architecture and Marks-Woods. Convene's vision was expertly executed by our skilled designers, project managers and field crew, ensuring that every detail was meticulously executed.
The transformation of this 1940s home in Beverly Hills is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship. By blending traditional elements with modern aesthetics, the architects and builders created a truly exceptional residence that is both stylish and functional.
