Can A Pedicure Transform Your Day?
When was the last time you had a pedicure? Last week? Last month? Mine was four and a half years ago. I treated myself six months after giving birth, vowed to invest more time in self-care, and, well, failed. Andi always has the cutest colors coordinated perfectly with the season. Me, not so much. Summer is here, toes are out, and Andi talked me into an Indulgence Pedicure at Salon Meraki. After all, it’s supporting one of our local businesses. So, here we are at the amazing Salon Meraki for a Stylebook pedicure!
Walking into Meraki, I was tired. It was Tuesday after Memorial Day, so the worst kind of “it’s Tuesday, but it’s Monday,” where everyone has somewhere to be, and everything they need isn’t where it usually is after the long weekend. From the moment I stepped into Meraki, it felt like an escape. The ambiance is elegant and serene at the same time. And, Kathleen and her team or so welcoming! It’s no wonder Salon Meraki has developed a following in Alexandria.
The polish from my last attempt at an at-home pedicure is somewhere on the floor of Local Motion Project after a particularly immersive modern dance class. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted polish at all. I love the color but dealing with taking it off just a week later is a lot.
But, Kathleen is amazing! She listened to my story and recommended a gel polish based on its staying power. Then came the hard part, choosing a color! Fun? Sparkle? Neutral? Where to begin? Kathleen’s team is so great - they grabbed all the wheels off the table and brought them back for my appointment where I proceded to take my time holding each one up and getting their thoughts on whether or not it would work on me or clash with a summer wardrobe.
The Indulgence Pedicure is pure magic. It started in a cozy, home-away-from-home chair with my feet relaxing in a gently bubbling bowl. A little bit of shaping and clean-up took care of the essentials with most of appointment focused on much-needed TLC. The lavender-scented scrub was just what I needed after a long, hot weekend of playgrounds, teaching yoga, dancing, and being on the go. Then came the polish, pearly nude followed by hot wax?! Okay, I was not expecting that! When Andi said wax, my first thought was, oh no! I imagined them having to peel it off like an eyebrow wax. Yeah, I was wrong. It felt like a warm hug sealing in the sensations from the sugar scrub and slid right off, leaving smooth, soft feet behind. And, if that’s not enough, the Indulgence Pedicure ends with the most amazing foot massage. That spot in your calf? Yes, they get it. Arches? Those too. I’m dreaming. Like literal walking on clouds dreaming.
