The Rise of ‘Tweakments’: Small Changes, Big Impact

Gone are the days of dramatic makeovers—today, it’s all about subtle enhancements that leave people wondering, ‘Did they do something… or are they just well-rested?’” I often joke with my clients if you want your friends to know you're in my chair, great! But if not then my goal is to give you that “eight hours of sleep, hydrated, doing yoga glow.”

The interest in subtlety is reinforced by the growing acceptance within our community of men and women who feel comfortable sharing their aesthetic journeys—whether on social media or over dinner with friends and colleagues. Knowing that celebrities like Cindy Crawford and Nicole Kidman support their graceful aging with injectable treatments makes their perceived beauty less about “she’s just born with it” and more about “she has to work at it, too!”

To further support that these mega stars are human like us, Courteney Cox has openly discussed having all of her filler dissolved. (She was injected at the height of the filler craze, leaving her overfilled and nearly  unrecognizable).

To the community of men and women—famous, locally famous 😉, and everyone in between—who proudly share their “tweaks,” I say thank you. You’ve shown us what just a little can do (and occasionally, what a little too much can do too!). This openness has made aesthetic consultations and treatment planning so much easier and more transparent with clients.

So, what are these subtle tweaks?

Among all the non-surgical treatments we offer as aesthetic providers, neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are often the most enjoyable for my clients—because of how they make them feel. Within two weeks, skin looks brighter and tighter, and clients often say they feel less tired and much happier.

Taking one step further in the aesthetic treatment journey, we have fillers. There are two main types commonly used: biostimulators like Sculptra or Radiesse, and hyaluronic acid fillers.

Both options have a well-earned place in my practice, and each can deliver natural, subtle enhancements when used thoughtfully. If you’re looking for pan-facial support (think: full-face rejuvenation), Sculptra is a game changer. If you're hoping to add a little plump to the lips or cheeks, or define the jawline or chin, hyaluronic acid fillers would be my go-to recommendation.

Either way, we can achieve a refreshed, natural look, without leaving you overfilled like your Thanksgiving turkey. I always remind my clients: aging is inevitable. We're all going to resemble some version of our grandparents and parents eventually, but it’s all about how we get there. Like a fine glass of wine, slow and steady is the new era of aesthetic medicine.

Right along the same lines of “fillers” is the use of regenerative treatments involving the natural building blocks (collagen) of your skin and soft tissues. Platelet rich fibrin or plasma (PRF or PRP) is widely common in surgical medicine and most recently has become popular in aesthetic medicine in the last 10 years.

These therapies involve isolating and concentrating the platelets in your blood, which, when injected into targeted areas, can accelerate tissue healing and renewal. In aesthetics, they’re especially helpful in treating delicate areas like under the eyes or as a powerful boost to microneedling, which is a fantastic option for addressing fine lines, skin laxity, scars, and discoloration over time.

Overall, aesthetic medicine has become so much more than just “getting Botox.” It has evolved into a specialty within medicine that embraces the importance of self-care and how it impacts a person’s ability to feel confident—inside and out. Taking care of our bodies isn’t vain; it’s about preparing them for the parts of life we can’t always control or slow down.
