Chambray: The Quintessential Spring Fabric

One of my favorite spring fabrics is chambray. Its origin lies in a small town in France called Cambray. While chambray and denim are often confused with one another, they are two distinct fabrics. Chambray is a double-ply cotton fabric with a tight weave. Unlike denim’s twill weave, chambray has a plain weave making it smoother and lighter in weight. This fabrication makes it a perfect spring and summer wardrobe staple. Although chambray is considered a spring and summer fabric, the dresses can transition into fall with some tights and booties. You can pair the pants with a number of tops to make them wearable through the warmer days of October. One of my mainstay brands does a wonderful job of creating beautiful dresses in this classic fabric: Draper James. I love the fabric so much, that I *may* have ordered more than a few styles. These styles are just so flattering for all body types and the color, both dark and light, work for most people.
