Comfort in Fashion, Edition 1

Since March, I've had many friends ask how I could even think about fashion in a time like this. I always have the same answer... first of all, it's my business and I have to do everything I can to keep it afloat. Second, fashion actually brings me comfort. Bill Cunningham, a former Street Style photographer for The New York Times, once said, "The wider world perceives fashion as frivolity that should be done away with. The point is that fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life. I don't think you can do away with it. It would be like doing away with civilization."I agree. Right after the birth of my first daughter, I had postpartum depression. We were down to one income and I was overweight. I went to the mall several times a week, just to walk around. Nordstrom had a nice place to nurse, their elevators for the stroller were fast, and the coffee stand was tasty. Even though I couldn't afford or fit into anything I wanted, just seeing the pretty things in the windows made me happy. It gave me a sense of comfort.I recently had Sarah of Sarah Marcella Creative at Kiskadee to take some updated indoor shots of the store. She and I got to talking about this very subject. Fashion wise, she's found comfort in wearing her concert t-shirts. We talked about that and she gave me a fun idea... let's talk about how we can find comfort in fashion. I asked her to do a little write-up. During COVID, my style has completely changed. Normally in the summer, you'll find me with a full face of makeup styled with a bohemian dress, and on occasion, even a pair of four-inch heels (yes, this puts me right around 6'3"). However, recently I find myself turning to a select few pieces in my closet. These items bring me joy when I see them and wear them. My daily uniform has adjusted to cut off jean shorts, and my beloved band tees. My go-to's include tees featuring The Green, Collie Buddz, Tribal Seeds, Dirty Heads, Pepper, and one of my favorites, Sublime.  You may not know this about me, but I'm a reggae and rock music lover. My summers are typically filled with outdoor concerts packed with joyful people all dancing and singing along with the band. It's my escape. This year, just like so many things, that's not possible. So, I turn to repping my gear and riding my bike while listening to my tunes. It's where I find joy, happiness, and a bit of normalcy in this world of uncertainty. If you're looking for some upbeat summer tunes, may I suggest checking out the Iration or Rebelution radios on Spotify. Maybe you'll be able to find a beach in your own backyard as I have.  Personally, I've found comfort in cozy but cute and loungewear. So have a lot of my customers, and we can't keep it in stock. Here are some of my new favorite pieces:
