DIY Mending Of Sweaters And Other Knit Items

As a yarn shop, we get asked to fix holes in sweaters a lot. It isn’t a service that we can offer, and it is actually rather difficult to find alterations companies or dry cleaners who can do this. One of the biggest challenges is matching the original yarn in the garment. Luckily, “visible mending” has become a bit of a trend lately. The idea is to embrace the imperfection in the garment and add a patch that is very much meant to be visible, rather than trying to match the original yarn or fabric to make a perfect fix.    If you have a favorite sweater, sock, or scarf with a hole or break, our new darning tools may help you create a patch to seal it shut! This darning and mending loom kit includes all of the tools you need to repair a hole in a knitted garment or a larger gauge machine knit sweater. The kit comes with instructions and everything you need except your yarn of choice: birch loom, heddle, elastic loop, and tapestry needle.  If you are very new to the yarn world, they have a handy video to help you get started. Be creative in choosing the yarn to darn with! You can use two colors, one pop of color, or simply match the garment you are mending as best as possible. Plus, this darning loom is a mini loom, so you will be picking up a new hobby (weaving) and saving your valuable garments from hitting a landfill.
