Dot, Bam, Crack: Mahjong Mondays on King Street
Hello, dear friends—
I’ve just returned from Maine, where the air was free of humidity, the nights were chilly enough for a coat, and the days blissfully free of torrential downpours. I enjoyed quiet moments on my Adirondack chair, sipping coffee and staring out over the Atlantic, grateful for the stillness and the chance to reconnect with my thoughts. My favorite ritual? Climbing the woodsy, moss-lined path up “Big Rock” that opens into a breathtaking view of the sea.
But now I’m back, and happy to be home. Back to Boxwood. Back to our community of incredible women. And I’ve returned with something fun to share!
Maggie from Lowery’s Dial and I are teaming up to launch a new tradition: Mahjong Mondays, starting Monday, August 4 at Boxwood. Since we hosted our Mahjong 101 and 201 classes, I’ve had so many women ask, “Now that I know how to play… where can I keep playing?” The answer is here—with us!
These will be casual, social open play nights for anyone who already knows the basics and wants a welcoming, joyful place to play. Whether you're still learning or ready for a little competition, we’ve got you covered with two styles of play:
Friendly-Assisted Play. Perfect if you're still gaining confidence. Our Mahjong trainer, Judy Heiser, will be on hand to offer guidance and tips.
Friendly-Competitive Play. For seasoned players who love a good challenge in a fun, social setting.
Participation is $50 per person and includes game setup and facilitation, sweet treats and beverages, and all the essentials – tiles, racks, mats, and everything you need. We’ll also have 2025 National Mahjong League cards available for purchase ($15). Because let’s be honest, you can’t play without one!

After October’s play, we’ll take a break to get ready for the holiday season and start fresh again with more play in the New Year!
