Fall Colors Are the New Black
My old Kate Spade sales representative used to always laugh after I picked all my samples for a potential buy and placed them on the table. He would laugh and say, “you buy just like Saks Fifth Avenue.”I, of course, took this as a compliment. When I responded with thank you and a smile, he dryly replied: “That isn’t a compliment, all you ever pick is black.”I tried to defend myself, stating that when I picked a shoe only in a non-basic color, customers always request the same shoe in black. He rolled his eyes and wrote my notes. When the clothing store opened, the same thing seemed to be happening. I got a lot of black...oh, and ivory. I’ve found that as a buyer, it is hard to commit to a color because you sometimes just don’t know if it will work!Well this fall I have tried to spread my wings and buy more color. It is always easier in the spring to add some color to the collections we carry. Fall can be a little more difficult, but we have tried this year and brought you wine, poppy, olive, tan, and rust. Okay, maybe tan isn’t a color, but hey it isn’t black!
