From Mood Boards to Dream Spaces: A 10-Year Toast to Kristin Try Interiors
Ten years ago, I said yes—with a dream in my heart, a plan in hand, and three little girls by my side.
Kristin Try Interiors—also known as Gingham and Grosgrain, LLC—was born from the belief that a creative life could be more than just a side passion. I had always loved both art and interiors, and while I was raising my daughters, I was also building something. I painted abstract art during stolen quiet moments, took on small design projects for friends, and stayed up late dreaming about how to turn my creative work into a real business.
I had goals. I had vision. But turning that dream into what Kristin Try Interiors is today took time. It took consistency, courage, and years of hard work—alongside the unshakable support of my loving husband, who encouraged me at every step. There were seasons where time was scarce, and energy was stretched thin between motherhood and entrepreneurship. But I kept saying yes—to the projects that inspired me, to the relationships that fueled me, and to the belief that something meaningful was growing.
Now, ten years later, I’m proud to lead a boutique interior design firm rooted right here in Alexandria. I spend my days collaborating with wonderful clients to bring warmth, beauty, and purpose to their homes. Though design is now my primary focus, I still feel the pull toward painting and creative side projects, and I will continue to carve out more time for that in the years to come.
One of the greatest gifts of this journey has been the people I've worked alongside. I’m deeply grateful for the incredibly talented team of designers and creatives who have been part of the KTI team over the years. Their vision, care, and commitment help make each project possible—and more beautiful than I could ever achieve alone. Keeping KTI small and personal has always been intentional, and I don’t see that changing. I simply want to keep saying yes to work that challenges us, fulfills us, and allows us to keep growing as artists and collaborators.

To anyone building something of their own, my advice is this:
Say yes even when you’re scared. Courage doesn’t mean being fearless—it means moving forward anyway.
Start where you are. You don’t need all the time or perfect conditions. Just take the next right step.
Hold on to your vision. The dream is possible—but it will ask for your time, patience, and heart.
Surround yourself with good people. The journey is richer when you share it with those who believe in you.
To the friends, clients, art collectors, vendors, contractors, and cheerleaders within this community—thank you. Thank you for trusting me, for welcoming me into your homes, and for making Alexandria such a meaningful place to do this work.
Here’s to ten years of saying yes—and to all the beauty still ahead.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Kristin
