Function + Fashion: Why We Love the Utility Trend

Before I wrote this piece I decided to count how many “military” or “utility” inspired jackets I have in my wardrobe. Let’s just say I had to start counting on my second hand. I find them hard to resist and even though I have an abundance, I still want to add to my collection. Perfect to throw on either as a casual blazer or a lightweight spring jacket, they make getting dressed easy. I love them styled belted over a dress or with a skirt.The utility look is not limited to jackets. Cargo-inspired pants and shorts are part of the trend. Look for a slouchy fit or patch pockets to be added to basic chinos. If you asked me how to describe this trend, I would say it is function intersecting with fashion, which sounds like a winning combination to me.
