Golden Globes 2019: The Best Jewelry
I’ll admit: this year’s Golden Globes had me doing a lot of zooming in to see the jewelry because the gowns were definitely the attractions of the night. There were a handful of standouts, though, so sit back with some Moët & Chandon and read on for my top five from the night...
Gemma Chan’s diamond earrings perfectly encapsulate how a beautiful design can make an otherwise straightforward concept really shine. They’re diamond earrings -- no color, no jaw-dropping huge gems -- but they’re set in a beautiful articulating wing-inspired setting that caught the light magnificently. Paired with her simple chignon, red lip, and deep blue gown, they define old-Hollywood glamour.
Anne Hathaway’s bi-colored diamond hoops show that you don’t need an elaborate design to make a striking piece of jewelry. The did just the thing good jewelry can do: accent her gown, draw the eye to her face, and tie her whole look together. They are dramatic, but don’t steal the attention from her gown.
Alex Borstein would have gotten my vote just for the diamond barrette she wore (I love an elegant take on a practical accessory), but the two Art Deco diamond brooches accenting her gown make the look a real treat for this jeweler. Against her crimson gown, they gave a subtle accent to the cape and tied the whole look together.
Saoirse Ronan’s emerald and diamond earrings were a home run for this emerald-loving jeweler. Oh my God. Paired with her champagne gown, sleek hair, and pink lip, these are the definition of over-the-top, drop-dead-gorgeous… I could continue. I wish I had occasion to a) own these and b) wear them every day. So good.
Catherine Zeta-Jones wears emeralds with the luxurious splendor they deserve. Her giant emerald and diamond ring somehow managed to steal the show from her vibrant green gown and also amazing diamond and emerald drops. I found myself googling close-up pictures and basically ignoring the rest of her resplendent look. No small feat.
