Golden Globes 2020: Our Best Dressed

It is officially award season and the Golden Globes kicked off the 2020 red carpet with style last night. There were some definite hits and some definite misses, but it was nice to see people taking some risks on the carpet. Puffy sleeves, green hues, black and white, and of course red were all favorites on the carpet. Zoey Deutch was a favorite of ours as well as Joey King - two distinct styles that pretty much sum up the red carpet looks -  from classic to couture.

So the theme seemed to be less is more this year. Which really is not my thing. With that in mind, I have to leave some of my typical favorites (Charlize, Kerry, and Gwyneth) off of my list because they left half of their outfits at home.

Zoey Deutch

Zoey Deutch was by far the best - love the color, the fit, and the jewelry. So, so good.

Laura Dern

Laura Dern is always a favorite and I was so relieved when I saw her! So elegant.

Nicole Kidman

I have to say this year there was no hands down winner for me. I was pleasantly surprised to find many that I liked really well, but not one single look was jaw dropping. Here are just a few of the ones I enjoyed. There were puffy sleeves galore and I was surprised at how much I liked them. Dakota Fanning, Zoey Deutch, Bel Powley, and Toni Collette. Of these I think I liked Bel Powley the best. The neckline and column silhouette with the ruffles and sleeves created an interesting juxtaposition between sweet and sexy.

White made another trip down the red carpet. I love how striking white is especially when it's in a column dress with no wrinkles. These women must not sit down at all. What we do for fashion, am I right?! Reese Witherspoon, Gillian Anderson, and Margot Robbie were all visions. Pick one, they were all fantastic.

If I was pressed to pick one look that was my favorite it would be Gugu Mbatha-Raw. That length is often hard to pull off, but this was sleek and sophisticated. The neckline, the color, the waistband, the length, it all worked together beautifully. Oh, and the hair, makeup, shoes, and jewelry were spot on.

Finally, I wanna give runner up awards to Zoe Kravitz, Phoebe Waller Bridge, and Charlize Theron. All were spectacular in their own way.

Lucy Boynton

I live for Lucy Boynton on the red carpet! Her makeup is always stunning, edgy, and different. It says “try me at home in a real world way.” I can’t wait to try to adapt this look.

Zoey Deutch

I don’t think I saw a look I liked better head to toe than this one. The hair was sleek and structural and was a perfect compliment to the strength of the dress’ silhouette. Her bold eyebrows showed off her features and beautiful soft makeup. And...that dress!

Joey King

When you select a dress like this you may be tempted to play the makeup up dramatically in order to match the drama. You may choose to go completely in the opposite direction and play it very low key with a totally nude look. But this look was just right! The soft focus makeup with a smokey eye and just bitten berry lip brought your attention to her beautiful face despite the optically engaging pattern. Gorgeous.

Kristin Cavallari

As someone with similar skin tone and hair color, I know It’s challenging to find just the right shade of pink to wear. I think Kristin Cavallari pulls it off beautifully with her blush pink top paired with a white maxi skirt.

Helen Mirren

While the dress seems fairly basic at first, I love the suprise layer of white  at the bottom. Additionally, the jewelry she chose is just stunning. Old school Hollywood glamour all the way in her look.

Joey King

While not a choice I would ever be able to pull off, I really love this interesting dress. I love the way the collar seemingly glides up her neck. What a showstopper!

Joey King

Joey King’s Iris van Herpen dress was insanely cool. This designer really pushes the envelope with her vision. This dress really wowed me.

Jennifer Aniston

Her black Dior haute couture gown was utter perfection. I think she knocked it out of the park. Her beach waves kept her look very easy and carefree. Only Jennifer Aniston can make this possible haha.

Margot Robbie

She blew my mind in her Chanel haute couture embroidered metallic top and satin crepe skirt. Her whole vibe is so effortless! I must say I’m a fan of the unfinished hair look with Chanel.

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning’s lilac Dior couture gown was romantic and feminine. I‘m a sucker for a puffy sleeve and lilac right now. Some people think she looked like a child, but I think there’s something ethereal and angelic about her. Not everyone has to dress sexy or wear black to look like an adult.

Zoey Deutch

Last, but definitely not least...one of my favorites was Zoey Deutch’s canary yellow Fendi gown. Woah. Show stopper. All the things. Balloon sleeves, neckline, sharp shoulder, color....done.
