Gratitude for Alexandria from KTI
As our family prepares to leave Alexandria after many meaningful years, I've found myself reflecting on how much this city has shaped me.
Like many people, I came to the Washington region as a college student expecting to stay only briefly. One opportunity led to another, and before I knew it, years had passed as I built a career, friendships, and eventually a family in this remarkable place.
Then an unexpected turn in my professional life opened a door I never anticipated. While living in Del Ray with young children and trying to figure out what came next, I began exploring art and creativity. What started with paint on canvas evolved into a design business and, ultimately, a calling. Alexandria welcomed me during a season of reinvention. This community gave me the confidence to be curious, take risks, and imagine a future I had not planned for.
Over the years, clients welcomed me into their homes and entrusted me with spaces that held their daily lives, celebrations, challenges, and memories. Through that work, I discovered that what I loved most was never simply design. I loved helping people create lives that worked better for them.
I have always viewed my role as both designer and advocate, helping families make thoughtful decisions about how they want to live and create homes that support those aspirations. Homes where gathering feels natural, traditions take root, children feel secure, and everyday moments become more meaningful. Alexandria taught me that beauty is not reserved for special occasions. It belongs in daily life, woven into our routines, relationships, and rituals.
As our family begins a new chapter in Minnesota, I leave with deep gratitude for the clients who entrusted me with their homes, the creative community that welcomed me, and the friendships that enriched our lives. When I look back, I realize that what Alexandria gave me was far more than a place to live or build a business. It gave me meaningful work, the courage to pursue it, and a community that supported me along the way. I hope my work gave something back. I hope I helped my clients find more beauty in ordinary days, gather more often around their tables, and create homes that reflected the lives they wanted to live.
As our family heads north, we leave with full hearts and lasting gratitude. Alexandria gave us friendship, opportunity, purpose, and memories we will carry with us wherever we go. We will be back someday and look forward to seeing you then!
