Consider This Your Sign to Book Family Photos Early
I would like to take a moment to say that I am genuinely proud of myself: I had our family photos taken early this year.
Usually, I am scrambling to schedule them while the very last leaves are falling from the trees, followed by a mad dash to choose a photo, order holiday cards, address them, and get them into the mail sometime before the new year.
But this year, I planned ahead—and I feel like a new woman.
We worked with Rénee Gage, the talented photographer behind Alexandria Stylebook. If you know Rénee, you know she is sunshine in human form. She has a warmth and kindness about her that immediately puts everyone at ease.
And I do mean immediately. As we walked up to meet her, my daughter had just pinched my son, I was yelling at both of them, and our sweet family photo moment was rapidly heading in the wrong direction. Rénee stepped in and completely changed the tone within seconds.
She is also lightning-fast, which is vital when you are photographing children. She knows exactly how to direct every member of the family so that everyone looks natural and no one feels awkward. Somehow, while doing all of that, she also notices every tiny detail—right down to making sure each piece of hair is perfectly positioned.
Rénee captures the candid moments and the beautifully polished, posed photographs. Most impressively, she manages to capture each of my children’s personalities in photo form—the expressions, the energy, and all the little things that make them who they are right now.
As a repeat client, I am always in awe of her talent. I deeply cherish the photographs she has taken of our family and love knowing that we have these moments preserved as our children grow.
So, take this as your friendly reminder: book your family photos early. You will avoid the annual last-leaf panic, enjoy the experience so much more, and feel incredibly accomplished when it is time to order those holiday cards.
