Ann Mashburn at The Hive

As we reach the end of our 20-year celebration, we had to squeeze in a few more events. After one week off, we are back at it with Ann Mashburn. It’s probably one of the newest lines at The Hive that’s had the biggest impact. Rebecca and I are always poring over spreadsheets, looking at what works and what doesn’t, and we were a little shocked to see how quickly Ann Mashburn became one of our most important brands.

It really shouldn’t surprise us, because when it comes to knits and shirting, nobody does them better. When it comes to quality, her pieces are well made and from some of the finest fabrics. You can see the menswear inspiration in both the fabrics and the tailoring. We can thank her husband, Sid, for that influence. They are sticklers for quality and it shows.

Ann has been in the fashion industry for decades and she understands how clothes should fit. I will admit that sometimes on the hanger, you can’t visualize how great the Isla shirtdress or the Aba Maxi will look once put on. It really takes trying it on to see how flattering her shapes and fit are on the body.

Our partnership with Ann Mashburn and her team only continues to grow. I have mentioned this before, but the people on this team are the most wonderful people to work with in this crazy retail and fashion world. They make our jobs easy. We are so excited to host a fall event with them this year. Usually we do one in the spring with Ann and the Fortunato sisters, but we decided we could not miss a chance to have them help us celebrate 20 years. Browse the Ann Mashburn Lookbook and come see us November 9-12 and receive 20 percent off!

Owner | The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
