Tibi: Spring Fundamentals

Last January we hosted our first Tibi event in-store. It focused on what Tibi calls the Fundamentals part of their collection and they launch a new selection each Fall and Spring. Typically, the collection includes new colorways of some of their classic cuts like the Stella pant or maybe the Liam blazer. Often they take something that did well from a main season and bring it into the Fundamentals. And of course, it includes new pieces that Amy, the designer, can somehow sense we all need in our wardrobe.

On her weekly Instagram live Style Series, Amy has been talking about how instead of looking at your wardrobe as seasonal or shopping for outfits, a much better way is to look at something you purchase by asking how can it be a tool in your wardrobe. Can it take you through different seasons? Can it dress down something you usually only wear to the office and make it more casual? Can you grab it and throw it on without much thought and know you will look good and feel like yourself? This is what the pieces in the Tibi fundamentals collection can do. Another term Amy uses is without fails (WOFs). These are the pieces that, even if you are wearing something extreme, give you balance. They are the grounding elements in your wardrobe that tie everything together.

We just received our spring Fundamentals order (the spring main line isn’t far behind) and so far the response has been great. One item that folks know well is the jogger, but this time they did it in pink satin. It might not seem so basic, but that is the point. It shouldn’t be basic, it should be useful. Adding a different color and fabric means it is just another way to wear something we have all already grown to love.

The item I am most excited about is the mock neck t-shirt. It has the most flattering cut, is made of a great thick fabric, and this season it doesn’t have shoulder pads. While I love a shoulder pad, it is great to have an option without one. I know I love a piece when I get upset that it is in the laundry, and I can’t wear it. That is a WOF for sure.

Owner | The Hive and The Shoe Hive

I spent the first part of my career as a copywriter who helped elected officials brag about their support for entrepreneurs. Then I decided to get off the printed page and do it myself. The Shoe Hive made a splash on the fashion scene in Washington, and was named the region’s best shoe store in its first year. Fourteen years later, I have tripled the store’s size and also opened a sister store, The Hive.  At The Hive, we offer clothing lines that are sophisticated and approachable like Rag & Bone, Tibi, Raquel Allegra, Ulla Johnson and Veronica Beard. We have tried to fill our racks with clothing you will want to wear all the time, elevated basics that are worth the investment.
