If You Give a Moose a Muffin

My girlfriend Julie is always making fun of me for my proclivity to allow one project to snowball into another. She always says, “Well Ang…if you give a moose a muffin…” I’m not sure the analogy from the book of the same name is completely on point, but I understand what she’s saying. But am I alone? I mean if you paint one room, the room next to it looks a little shabby doesn’t it?Well, I guess I gave a moose a muffin when I decided to do some cleaning at Bellacara. I thought I would take advantage of the downtime at the store and do some deep cleaning. When I got to the bathroom, I looked at it and just said, no. Cleaning is not enough. I’ve always hated that bathroom but could never do anything about it. Why? Because I share water that is not on a separate system from the salon upstairs. Therefore, shutting the water off to rip out plumbing was never an option. Until that is, they were forced to close as a result of the COVID-19 regulations.  It really wasn’t a good time to spend money, but I couldn’t lose the opportunity. So, after some Craigslist finds and a contractor who had some time on his hands presented themselves, I dove in. Nothing fancy, but now it’s nice and clean. It could’ve ended there, but there was another issue. In this new era of COVID-19, I really wanted a sink on the front room floor where customers and staff could wash their hands. Exactly… the muffin needed jam.  So, now we have a brand-new sink in the front room. I’ve realized that hand washing is much easier on the hands than constant use of hand sanitizer. We used to just squirt a bit of Purell on in between customers, but now that we’re having to do that after touching almost any surface, it simply isn’t sustainable. I also want customers to know that they can wash their hands should they desire. None of us know how long this current situation will continue so I want you to know we are making accommodations to make shopping a less stressful experience. The cleaning continues, so who knows…maybe the moose will need milk with his muffin and jam.
