Would You Mop a Floor You Haven’t Swept?

This post is by Abby Baldonado one of our wonderful Sales Associates at Bellacara. Thank you Abby!

Recently, I had the pleasure of participating in a virtual Dermalogica Skincare Master Class with Joanie Coffren who is the Dermalogica Regional Manager for the East Coast. Joanie asked each participant what our skin care concerns were and then put together a customized packet with Dermalogica Skincare samples. As we were getting started with our training, Joanie said something that really spoke to me. When explaining the importance of a double cleansing routine she said, “Would you mop a floor that you haven’t swept?” My answer was of course no, as I am sure you all would agree what a mess that would be. Now, apply that concept to your skin. I know that if you’re reading this, you care about your skin. So, let me explain the importance of a pre-cleanse to you. The pre-cleanse is the sweeping before the mopping. It is the secret to healthy, ultra-clean skin. It removes layers of built-up makeup and products like SPF that pollution (which is one of the leading causes of free radicals) will cling to like a magnet. It also removes other oily debris. Once you’ve done this, you can really allow your prescribed cleanser to penetrate even further for a professional level of clean. Not wearing makeup lately, especially in these times of telework? I hear you. I would still recommend at least using a micellar water to remove the top layer of grime you may have picked up on your afternoon walk around the block, and then wash your face.A clean face is the key to having your treatment toners, serums, and moisturizers work to the best of their ability. You’ve invested good money in them. So now what do you think? Should you wash your face without first taking your makeup off?My favorite pre-cleansers: Dermalogica Pre Cleanse Balm, Zelens Cleansing Liquid Balm, Maya Chia Cleansing Oil, Rilastil Micellar Water, and Bioderma Micellar Water.
