Keeping Little Hands Busy at Home This Spring

I know that lately I’ve been looking for every possible way to teach and entertain my daughter while she’s learning from home with me. I am a big believer in the value of arts and crafts in the development and education of our children, being the owner of a yarn shop myself. Our homeschooling curriculum has included painting kits from AR Workshop, writing and drawing supplies from Penny Post, and puzzles from Red Barn Mercantile. At fibre space, we have put together a nice collection of kits for children (or adults!) that utilize yarn and some of our best notions and tools. Here are the kits you can find in our shop right now. Grab one or two and see what amazing things your child can make from home! Children’s Learn to Knit Kit - $42This deluxe set includes the book Annie and the Swiss Cheese Scarf, a 20-piece children's puzzle, sticker sheet and paper doll set, bamboo needles, and 219 yards of yarn for making their very first scarf. It is all packaged in a fibre space canvas tote.  5 Crafts in a Box Kit - $28This 5-Crafts-in-a-Box kit allows your child to play with five different yarn crafts: pom pom, tassels, friendship bracelet, weaving, and cord. With the materials in the kit, you can make least two pom poms, two tassels, four friendship bracelets, one small weaving, and two cords (and definitely more, see photo).  Emoji Pom Pom Lover Kit - $21This kit combines pom poms and emojis for one fun project! The kit includes the yarn and pom pom making tool to make the necklace seen here or a pair of earrings.  Fruit Pom Pom Kit - $21This fun kit can make six pineapples, watermelons, and oranges (two each). They’re fun to make and can be strung or attached to just about anything – make a necklace, a fruity crown, put them in a basket for display or attach them to your straw hats and baskets.  Friendship Bracelet Kit in Wildflowers or Pink - $23This kit makes 12+ friendship bracelets / rings / chokers with instructions for four different patterns styles. It includes everything you need!

Danielle, owner of the fibre space shop, has been knitting since the age of six or so, when she completed her first project – a Cabbage Patch doll scarf. A Pittsburgh native with a degree in international development, she moved to the D.C. area to find a job and quickly established a career in non profit management and fundraising. For extra cash, she decided to turn her hobby into a job and taught knitting classes in the evening at area shops. With a heavy dose of sarcasm and a tough love style of teaching, Danielle quickly developed a following of students – busy D.C. professionals looking for a creative outlet. In October 2006, she struck out on her own with Knit-a-Gogo, Inc. – offering knitting classes and events all over the D.C. metro area.  Before she knew it, Knit-a-Gogo had grown out of control and Danielle moved to the next natural step – a full service yarn shop. In July 2009 fibre space was born and has been rockin’ ever since. When she isn’t behind the scenes with a mocha in hand, Danielle is hanging with her daughter or lobbying for small business needs at City Hall.
