Behind the Lens: Capturing a KTI Signature Space

There’s something magical about seeing a vision come to life and capturing it in a way that tells the full story. Last week, we had the joy of photographing our Woodland Terrace project, and it was a day that reminded us why we love what we do.

For this shoot, we partnered with Stacy Zarin Goldberg, a photographer whose talent and eye for detail we’ve admired for years. Stacy shot one of our favorite projects early in our journey, so bringing her back felt like a full-circle moment. We also introduced  stylish, Ashley Prime, owner of Layered Co, whose classic-but-cool aesthetic perfectly complements the direction we’re taking with our designs. Both Stacy and Ashley are local to the DMV, and their creativity and professionalism reflect our ongoing commitment to working with talented local creatives who elevate every project.

The heart of this project? A primary suite unlike anything we typically see in Alexandria. Instead of working to maximize every inch, we were tasked with transforming an extremely large, dated space into something vibrant, functional, and full of life. Our clients—a young family—wanted a retreat that could serve as a sanctuary yet still feel connected to their everyday rhythm.

We leaned into the idea of a boutique hotel experience: calm yet cheerful, layered with color and pattern, and designed to inspire. The result is a space that feels bright, joyful, and deeply personal—a place where the family can recharge and dream big.

A huge shout-out to the KTI team for making this vision a reality:

  • Traci, our project manager, whose background in film sets made her the perfect partner for orchestrating the shoot day.

  • Laura, who at the very start of the project helped translate my design into concepts and renderings for the client and builder.

We also wanted to share the mood boards for each space and some behind-the-scenes moments from shoot day, because the process is just as inspiring as the final photos. We don’t always do a photo shoot for every project since they are such an investment of time and resources, but when a project feels so distinctly KTI and the client’s vision aligns with ours, it’s worth capturing.

For us, these shoots aren’t about press or exposure, they’re about creativity. They’re a designer’s version of a resume, a way to celebrate the artistry and collaboration that goes into every detail. And honestly, working alongside such talented creatives is what keeps us inspired and pushes our portfolio in exciting directions.

We can’t wait to share the final photos with you soon. What a beautiful way to close out this project!
