Little Luxuries
Over the years I have come to appreciate certain little luxuries in my life that I now can’t be without. One is fresh flowers. I have fresh flowers all over my house. Flowers just make a room so much nicer. I love them so much that I have actually started selling flowers in the store on Fridays. One variety every Friday. I used to go to the farmer’s market every Saturday, but it has become increasingly difficult to get there Saturday mornings with the kids’ schedules. I also tend to prefer vases filled with a single type flower over a mix when I’m keeping it casual and it isn’t easy to find an abundance of a single variety. So, I decided to do it myself. I have them delivered to the store fresh early Friday. Last week was peonies because I just miss them. My house is still flooded with their gorgeousness. If I am entertaining and need something a level above, I go to Helen Olivia. They’ll definitely be doing all my holiday arrangements. This love of flowers may have been the beginning of my love of scented candles. The other of my can’t live without indulgences. Finding candles that are unique and that I can’t wait to light isn’t always easy. I suppose in much the same way finding a fragrance is difficult. It has to speak to you. It has to be something you want to smell all day if you’re going to spray it on yourself. The same is true of a fragrance that will emanate throughout your home.I recently found a line of Australian candles that I simply cannot wait to burn when I get home. They are larger than your average candle and have a 70 plus hour burn time. Founded by a husband and wife team, this Melbourne-based brand combines clean, fresh, and distinctly Australian scents with the age-old traditions of Parisian fragrance houses to create a truly unique line of candles. Each candle is handcrafted from Australian soy, beeswax, and candle-grade paraffin wax and scented with a highly concentrated blend of natural perfumes, carefully developed from hand-picked flowers sourced from the fields of France and Australia. They’re poured into SOH’s signature curved glass jars in matte white, black, or navy. A great gift or, more indulgently, gift to self. These beautiful candles are now in store. A limited-edition holiday candle named St. Nicholas is now available as well in a gorgeous matte green glass vessel. The candle smells of smoke, pine, fir needles, and ember ash - like a pine tree next to a roaring fireplace. I have no doubt you’ll love them as much as I do.
