These Local Cookies are a Batch Made in Heaven!

If you haven’t already stumbled upon her mouthwatering Instagram @sugarcookiesisters or experienced her cookie decorating class, we want to introduce you to local cookie artist Rachel Lilly of Sugar Cookie Sisters.  Sugar Cookie Sisters’ owner and baker, Rachel Lilly is a local mother of two right here in Alexandria. From custom cookie orders to cookie decorating DIY kits, Rachel offers many ways to make your event, party, small gathering, or even time with your “quarantine pod” special with custom sweets. Our team first met Rachel in December for a team holiday cookie decorating party. Rachel’s easy to follow instructional video and kits with pre-prepared cookies, icing, and tools was the perfect activity to do together over the holidays. We loved the challenge and we all noted how it was such a calming activity that left us pleasantly surprised with how our cookies turned out! The best part of the activity was that no matter how the cookies turned out on the outside, the sugar cookie itself was delicious. I’d be lying if I said we didn’t eat the icing straight out of the piping tube… yes, it was that good!  We’re not the only ones whose eyes have been caught by her cookies. Rachel’s cookies have been featured by New York Times Cooking. For their anniversary last year, they asked her to create custom cookies. She says it was one of the highlights of her cookie journey so far.Rachel began by taking decorating classes and making cookies just for fun and for friends before realizing that this was a hobby she wanted to launch into a business. In October 2020, Rachel elevated her passion into a business and Sugar Cookie Sisters began with its popularity quickly rising as the holidays ramped up with custom orders and DIY kit requests. Her love of art and design is obvious in every cookie she decorates. Her business makes it easy for others to be creative and engaged in the process.  The quarantine really gave her DIY classes momentum as a perfect and unique at-home activity. Rachel loves teaching and feels it’s her niche, which is why she’s looking forward to hosting in-person classes again once it’s safer to work with larger groups. For now, her pre-recorded instructional videos are still very popular for people of all ages and skill levels. The kits really do take all the work out of baking cookies and leave her clients with the fun part -- decorating! Not only do the kits include all the supplies you’ll need for the class, but Rachel also includes her sugar cookie and royal icing recipes to share with her clients to use in their own baking after her class.Sugar Cookie Sisters cookies can be used for just about anything. Her DIY kits, painted cookies, custom cookies, mini cookies, and more can be used for thank you gifts, wedding favors, events, or party activities that you’d want to make special and unique. It can be difficult to find things to make something special, which is why these cookies are so great -- they are completely customizable.Just like us, Rachel loves that her business gives her the opportunity to meet and greet within our community. Check out more of her work on Sugar Cookie Sisters’ Instagram and Facebook pages. With the popularity of custom cookies, Rachel says ordering in advance is best, usually about four to six weeks out. Requests can be made through her online order request form and she’ll get back to you within three business days!If you’re looking for a special, unique, and custom activity or gift, make sure to check out our local favorite Sugar Cookie Sisters. We’ve loved following along to see her creations and hope you will, too! We hope these “bake” your day a little better and add a little sweetness to your feed! [nemus_slider id="82979"]
