Mark Your Calendars For These Amazing Alexandria Events

Remember last week when I told you why I love January? Isn’t it great to look forward to the year ahead with excitement  Well, we have a number of upcoming events that we are excited about, and I wanted to make sure that you have them on your calendar! Now, we are still working on these, so more details are to follow, but they are so good that I wanted to make sure you make note on your calendars now!

Upholstery Sale: Our semi-annual upholstery sale starts February 1! This year, in addition to our usual discount, we are going to have a floor sale. We have several wonderful pieces that need to find a new home so we can bring in a new batch of favorites. They will be on deep discount, so come in today and start planning your order!

Walkable Warehouse Sale: I used to love the energy of the Warehouse Sale, but I didn’t love all the work it took to haul all the things there. The Walkable Warehouse Sale is so much more pleasant. Stroll Old Town, hit up your favorite shops, get amazing deals, grab lunch, and maybe enjoy a cocktail or two. It’s a wonderful way to shop. Put February 4 on your calendar now!

Galentine’s Day: This is a new event a few of us have concocted. It’s designed to celebrate the female friends whom we love and adore–the women we turn to when we need to scream, cry, and rejoice. On February 9, from 5pm to 9pm, grab your gal pal(s) and spend the evening with your favorite female-owned businesses, Virginia’s Darling, The Hive, The Shoe Hive, Old Town Books, She’s Unique, Helen Olivia Flowers, Red Barn Mercantile, and Penny Post. Tickets get you semi-private shopping, free gifts, and tasty treats. They will be limited, so get yours as soon as they go on sale next week!

Shopkeepers for Schools: We love this event and are bringing it back again this year! From February 16 to 23, shop at Red Barn Mercantile and Penny Post to support your school. We will be donating 10 percent of every sale to the school of your choice. Whichever school gets the most donations will get an additional 10 percent of the sales they receive. In addition, we will match the winning school’s donations with a gift to The Scholarship Fund for Alexandria!

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
