Home Design Trends and Transformations for 2024

With 2024 just days away, fresh starts and transformations are top of mind. When it comes to your home, every year is a great year to redesign and reimagine your space. I spoke with our design team and asked them what they have on the horizon for design trends in the new year, great wallpapers to elevate any room, and for the quick update, their go-to finish that will transform a space in no time!

DESIGN TREND FOR 2024

Out with the all white and cool grays and in with the warm lived in colors and textures. Warm tones are coming back in a big way as well as bold moody combinations with softer colors for interior furnishing. Think English country with a moody twist.

Some of my favorite colors right now are by Farrow & Ball

  • Selvedge

  • Drop Cloth

  • Brinjal

  • Duck Green

  • Calamine

WALLPAPER I’M LOVING

I am loving the Alpine Garden Floral Wallpaper in Midnight by Hygge & West. I can picture this in an office with painted trim, ceiling, and interior of the door in a beautiful coordinating color.

MY GO-TO FINISH

I am loving Unlacqured Brass. Circling back to the trend of warm and lived in, unlacquered brass is a premium finish that encompasses just that. The beauty is that this brass ages over time creating an antique patina look while still feeling lux. This Perrin & Rowe Holborn Bridge Faucet is a great mix of modern with the U shaped spout and brings in the vintage flare with the Unlacqured finish.

DESIGN TREND FOR 2024

Maximalism is going to continue to climb in popularity for design styles.  Not in the way of people acquiring more stuff, but I think people are really embracing showing their personalities in their homes.  We're going to continue to see more color use, wallpaper, vintage and thrifted finds, warm wood tones, and mixed metal finishes.

WALLPAPER I’M LOVING

Wallpaper is one of my favorite things to add personality to a space, and there are so many beautiful options available today.

I love the Plantasia Wallpaper from House of Hackney, particularly in the sage colorway.  I think it adds beautiful English Country charm to a room, and I would paint match a color from the wallpaper for the trim and doors for a fully immersive room.

I also love whimsical wallpaper, especially in a dining room or a powder room.  I think it's such a fun conversation starter.  Right now I can't wait to use the Safari Soiree wallpaper from Divine Savages in a clients home.

MY GO TO FINISH

Aside from brass, which is also a favorite finish of mine, I really like matte black finishes.  One of my favorite faucets from Signature Hardware comes in a number of finishes, which is amazing, but looks especially handsome in the matte black finish.

DESIGN TREND FOR 2024

Checkerboard! This timeless pattern resurfaced a few years ago in the world of home decor + furnishings and has since resurged into a permanent fixture of design. We've designed quite a few projects with this motif in 2023 that are due to be installed in 2024. It's a chameleon of a pattern in that it can transcend from classic to modern design. A mix of two neutral colors can lend itself to more of an old-world design, whereas just by swapping the two colorways, the design intent can skew retro.

WALLPAPER I’M LOVING

Speaking of checkerboard, I am loving the Lyre Wallpaper by Kelly Wearstler x Lee Jofa. The first time I saw this wallpaper, it literally stopped me in my scroll.

Its organic and playfully hand-painted pattern would be such a statement in a powder room. The collection has five wonderfully curated colors, but I am especially loving the Blushing, Fiery, and Pool colorways.

MY GO-TO FINISH

I will never not recommend a brass finish! There are so many brands out there that have different versions of their brass finishes, but one that really sticks out to me is the Brushed French Gold by Kallista. This finish is perfect for clients who are nervous about incorporating brass into their fixtures for fear that it'll turn into the 90's polished yellow gold that many are so eager to get rid of.
