Monday’s Child Turns 40!

Hello Stylebook readers! My name is Maura Burchette, owner of Monday’s Child, the classic children’s boutique in Old Town that specializes in beautiful clothes for precious children. If you are not familiar with the forty (!!) year-old boutique located in the historic Crilley Warehouse on 218 North Lee Street, I want to let you know that we’ve got you covered when it comes to classic children’s clothing and accessories – baby gifts, baptism gowns, holiday dresses and outfits (we love a good matching sibling set), monograming, boy’s blazers and ties, First Communion, adorable play clothes, shoes, books, toys, and much more.  I am so excited to start contributing to this great publication. As a native Alexandrian, I really enjoy reading Stylebook and I am so proud of the incredible community that it showcases day-in and day-out and I feel so grateful to be a part of it. Even more so, now that I am a small business owner.

Eighteen months ago, on my 7th wedding anniversary, one of my very best friends since kindergarten (who happens to own The Virginia Cotillion with me) forwarded me an email saying the historic establishment was seeking a new, enthusiastic owner. I was very familiar with Monday’s Child because I’m a longtime customer. My mom bought me dresses at the store when I was younger and I always turned to this Old Town gem for the sweetest smocked outfits and little saddle shoes for my three young boys – who are now 2, 4, and 6. One-all-caps-email from Gillian saying “YOU SHOULD BUY MONDAY’S CHILD” – was all it took for me to eagerly inquire and here I am today.

And let me tell you, I absolutely love owning Monday’s Child. As a boy mom, I admit that I really enjoy getting my fix for darling dresses, little girl bubbles, and big pink bows – but I also make sure the store is stocked with a great selection for boys. Boys clothes are adorable too – they can just be harder to find! Well, look no further. We carry classic, timeless pieces for special occasions, as well as everyday outfits – and we love helping you monogram them. Children are little for such a short time, take advantage of dressing them like children. And yes, we still sell the pink sailor dress that I got from Monday’s Child in the 80s. Classic never goes out of style!  To kick off the new year, the new decade, and our 40th birthday…we are giving you the first look at our fun new logo, redesigned website, and our modern take on the classic nursery rhyme that gives Monday’s Child its name. We would love for you to come into the store and say hello. New resort and spring inventory is arriving daily and to help entice your visit, we are offering Stylebook readers a special one-time discount of 40 percent off one item, now through January 31, 2020.*Some exclusions applyWe are selling the same beautiful, timeless clothing Alexandria has always loved and relied on us to carry but adding new brands and new energy – and a lot more leopard spots!
