Year-End Prep Made Easy (and Delicious): 1099 Tips + Favorite Holiday Recipes
Who else can’t believe we’re almost at the end of 2025?! November is the unofficial kickoff for year-end prep here at Moneta Accounting Solutions, and one of the things we’re turning our focus to is 1099s!
Whether your bookkeeper or accountant preps your 1099s or you do them yourself, if you have a business, it's time to check that you have W-9s on file for all contractors you paid $600 or more to in 2025. A W-9 has almost all of the information you'll need to prepare your 1099-NEC filings, and you can be subject to penalties if you file with missing or incorrect info. So, we've prepped a quick script you can copy + paste to make your life a little easier:
“Hi [Name], it's been a pleasure working with you this year! I'm updating my records for year-end tax reporting and need a quick Form W-9 from you. This form helps me issue your 1099 in January (and keep both of us in compliance with IRS rules). You can fill it out here [the official W-9 form] and send it back via [your preferred method]. Thanks so much for helping me get this squared away before year-end!”
Of course, 1099 prep isn't the only thing you've got to worry about before 2026. Send us an email at hello@monetaacctg.com for our “6 Tax Planning Moves To Make Before 2026" guide as a reminder of a few things you might want to ask your tax accountant about before the ball drops.
I know that's a lot of financial talk when you’d really just like to wind down for the holidays, so as a literal palate cleanser, I'm sharing my must-make holiday recipes:
Pineapple Casserole
This recipe is a Southern classic from Jean’s side of the family. Everyone gives a little bit of a side eye when they first hear about it, but once they try it, it’s ALWAYS requested to be a part of any family dinner side dish lineup.
Ingredients:
2 cans chunk pineapple, drained
¼ cup flour
½ cup sugar
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 stick butter, melted
1 sleeve ritz crackers, crushed
Steps: Add the drained chunk pineapple to the bottom of an oven safe dish. Combine the flour & sugar and sprinkle evenly on top of the pineapple. Combine the cheddar with the Ritz crackers & sprinkle evenly on top of the pineapple mixture. Drizzle the top with the melted butter. Bake at 375 until browned and bubbly, about 30 minutes. Enjoy!
Kendall’s Extra Creamy Mashed Potatoes
I love a good mashed potato, especially with holiday meals! This is really more of a “measure with your heart” style recipe but here are some guideline measurements.
Ingredients:
1 lb Yukon Gold or another type of golden potato
1 stick butter
1 cup sour cream
4 ounces cream cheese
½ cup whole milk
Salt & Pepper
Steps: Peel your potatoes and medium dice. Boil in salted water until fork tender & drain. Add butter, sour cream, cream cheese, and milk to a microwaveable bowl and heat until everything is hot (you want to avoid adding cold ingredients to your hot potatoes because it can cause them to have a funky texture). Add to the potatoes and mash well until smooth & combined. You can also get creative and add roasted garlic or garlic powder, onion powder, and/or freshly chopped rosemary. Enjoy!!
