Suckers for Sugar: National Cupcake Day Report

Before we have dreams of sugarplums dancing in our heads this holiday season, here at our Patterson Group HQ, located just blocks away from some fantastic Old Town bakeries, we’ve decided to round up some of our favorites to celebrate National Cupcake Day (December 15)! Although we don’t necessarily need a reason to indulge in sweets during the holidays, it’s nice to use a “national holiday” as our excuse. We ordered a chocolate and vanilla cupcake from each to go head-to-head for our taste test. It was hard to pick a favorite when these three local cupcakeries were so tasty.

Alexandria Cupcakes

1022 King Street, Alexandria VA 22314Our Order: Vanilla Bean & Mint ChocolateTeam favorite: Mint ChocolateButtercream goodness!! The mint chocolate was a festive spin on classic chocolate, our team’s favorite out of the three chocolate choices. The rich buttercream icing complimented the dense cake, with the minty flavor in the chocolate giving a refreshing and light satisfaction.

Lavender Moon

116 S Royal Street, Alexandria VA 22314Our Order: Vanilla & S’mores ChocolateTeam favorite: VanillaWe loved the vanilla because it wasn’t too sweet and the cream cheese icing was so creamy on top. The cake itself reminded us of a lemon poppyseed muffin and the icing was like cheesecake. Delicious!

Small Cakes

1506 Mt. Vernon Ave, Alexandria VA 22301Our Order: Birthday Vanilla & Winter ChocolateTeam favorite: Birthday VanillaIt was hard to pick a favorite between the vanilla and chocolate. Both these cakes reminded us of home cooking in the kitchen! These cakes are tasty and filling -- perfect for sharing!  It’s the holiday season… during a pandemic... so treating yourself to a cupcake is more than overdue. Happy National Cupcake Day to you!
