Our 2022 M.V.P.s
It’s time for another Style Assignment!
December is a busy time of year, but it’s also a great time to reflect on where you have had the most style success. Identifying value and determining the reasons for your success can be an area we often take for granted. Gaining clarity on what works for your wardrobe should not be overlooked.
In order to develop even more of that style success, you should take a moment to define why some of your most-used items are so essential to you.
Here’s one example I can share that helped shed light on my own wardrobe.
I’m lucky to get weekly access to The Hive’s latest drops. I tried on the Active Knit Wide Leg Pull On Pant. It wasn’t a pant I thought I needed, but I started running through my style vetting list and found out it was a worthy contender!
I asked myself:
Is it comfortable?
Can I wear it to client meetings? (Lifestyle applicable)
Will it pivot to other occasions? (Parties, meetings, events)
Is it travel-friendly?
Does it comply with my already-established shoe game?
Does it maneuver across multiple seasons?
Knowing I had a Christmas party to attend at the end of the week, I quickly thought about tops I already owned and created a look that felt chill, modern, and completely satisfied my style. I was SOLD! I immediately put them to use the following day and wore them with my Smythe chunky sleeveless turtleneck and a pair of fuchsia suede sneakers. I felt like myself in an emerging and modern way. I try to push my own boundaries in order to stay relevant and to feel energized. This new silhouette was nothing I could have predicted for myself, but I didn’t want to shy away from what we all can feel when we change an aspect of our style – resistance. I’ve made it a personal policy to identify the feeling of resistance and learn to move through it. If that sounds too esoteric then try this - don’t think, just do.
Below are some of the pieces my clients and I have identified as M.V.P.s of 2022. I also added a Hall of Fame item and a potential M.V.P. for 2023. Not everything will get awards for doing major heavy lifting in your wardrobe. Styles change and so do we, but taking time to know the reasons behind your style success will help you navigate the future and cultivate your own wardrobe of M.V.P. contenders. I’ll be posting more M.V.P.s on my Instagram feed. I’ll be asking to see some of yours too! Don’t forget to include the WHY!
