Our Summer Playlists

Summer Solstice is next week and nothing sets the mood better than a solid summer playlist. While the Walkman graduated into Spotify Premium, the art of curating the perfect playlist remains constant. While last year’s top drop, “As It Was” by Harry Styles may still be top of mind for many of us (guilty), here are some new and classic picks to freshen-up your tunes and make your friends break out their Shazam this year:

Amy, Red Barn and Penny Post: Every season Van Morrison is on my playlist so you can expect to hear him. This year, though, I’m adding Nickel Creek (not Nickleback, they are very different). They are back together after a very long hiatus and I’m here for it all. In fact, I planned my summer travel around their July 23 Wolftrap concert. That’s how excited I am!

Elizabeth, The Hive, The Shoe Hive, and Yellow Jacket: I am not much of a concert goer. I am not big on crowds and typically don’t plan far ahead enough to actually purchase tickets. But in the past few months, I have gone to two concerts, Brice Springsteen and Taylor Swift. Pretty darn amazing ones if I do say so myself. So, most of the time I turn on Bruce Springsteen Radio and hope “Badlands” is on or my daughter is in the car with me and we play Taylor. If you get a chance to see either of these people this summer, take it.

Katelin, Family First: “This Summer” by Superchunk, always makes me think about summers on our local beaches! And “Doin' Time” by Lana Del Rey – I love this cover and think it is better than the original.

Adrien, Alexandria Wellness: I am a HUGE Tina Turner Fan! I am brokenhearted about her passing, yet have Faith she is in a wonderful place. This summer, I dedicate my training to Tina! I will have "This is Tina Turner" on Spotify on repeat!

Team Stylebook:

Shruti: While not strictly a summer song, "Afterlife” or “Maan Meri Jaan” by Nick Jonas and King is on repeat in my car, at home, and at the grocery store – love a good love song. For an at-home dance party, Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” from the Barbie soundtrack is pure perfection.

Christina: I remain monogamously enchanted by and devoted to Harry Styles, but before solo Harry, we were blessed by One Direction. At 12 and now at 25, their music brings me right back to the feelings of teenage freedom, firework-like joy, and heart-pounding excitement for their arrival on stage. “Live While We’re Young”, “Best Song Ever”, “Magic”, “Temporary Fix”, and “Happily” are just a few that will be the soundtrack to my summer 2023. And, yes, I did leave high school early “sick” when Zayn departed in 2015. And, no, I still haven’t recovered.
