Groundhog Forecasts Early Spring — Get Your Gardens Ready!

Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow in front of thousands of spectators on February 2. According to the legend, this means we're in for an early spring. Woooo! Though, Phil has only been right 39% of the time.

Regardless of when spring arrives, now’s the time to begin thinking about our gardens and outdoor space.

Patina’s Kew Pottery is a fan favorite. We’re always asked if it’s safe to leave them outside through winter. Our opinion: best to bring them indoors.

Much to our delight, there is now a frost-proof terracotta line from Kew. Entirely handcrafted by Artisans, finished in an antique effect, these beautiful pots are suitable for outdoor use all year. Each item is individually crafted and therefore no two are alike. Minor imperfections are inherent and add to the beauty of these products.

The frost-proof containers have arrived and we welcome you to drop by Patina and have a look.

On a closing note, I just have to leave a thought from film critic Roger Ebert, regarding the movie Groundhog Day. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a must! The movie is about a man (played by Bill Murray) who finds himself living the same day over and over and over again. He’s the only person aware that this is happening. After going through periods of dismay and bitterness, revolt and despair, suicidal self-destruction and cynical recklessness, he begins to do something alien to his nature: he begins to learn.

Life is like that. Tomorrow will come, and whether or not we keep repeating the same day — all we can do is be the best person we know how to be. The good news is that we can always learn to be better. In the movie, there’s a moment when Phil tells Rita, "When you stand in the snow, you look like an angel."

The significance of that line is not that he has come to love Rita, it’s that he has learned to see the angel.

And we hope to see you at Patina soon!

Amanda and Kim are excellent complements to one another-one could even say the Yin and Yang of design. Being very different people but with interconnected forces is the reason their partnership continues to flourish.
