A Stationery Lover’s Favorite Month of the Year

April is every stationery lover’s favorite month, National Letter Writing Month! As stationery lovers ourselves, Penny Post is here for it. Every year we pull out all the stops to celebrate our favorite way to connect with family and friends near and far. From bingo to BOGO, we’ve got a great month planned for you. I mean, it’s good. Check out this lineup…

First, bingo is back, baby! We had so much fun engaging with you all last year that we are bringing back stationery bingo. Register online and play along. At the end of the month, everyone will be entered to win one of our world-famous Letter Writing Kits. Each kit includes six cards plus postage, a snail mail sticker, one roll of washi tape, two pens, and a very special sticker sheet that our friends at Hartland Brooklyn made just for us. Our kits are available for sale as well. Choose your poison – sweet, salty, or a combo kit!

Our annual Perfectly Personalized Crane Stationery event continues through April 9, so be sure to pop in to grab your custom stationery. Crane is the gold standard in personal correspondence and there is no better deal than this. Get 50 pieces of custom stationery for $99. It makes a lovely gift for that letter-writing grad going off to college so they can write home to mom.

Next up is the Traveler’s Company Stamp Caravan. This may be the coolest thing we do all year. Traveler’s is an amazing notebook and stationery company out of Japan. They make beautiful leather notebooks and an entire system for keeping yourself organized and well-planned. From April 11 to 18, their limited-edition Traveler’s Factory stamps will be at Penny Post for you to stamp your journal. These stamps only make it to the US once a year and only in select stores, so this is an incredible opportunity for us and collectors alike. IYKYK.

Ok, this may be my favorite thing we are doing this year. Felix Doolittle makes the sweetest return address labels hands down. No one compares. Once you start using these you will never use the free ones from direct mail solicitations again. Trust me. To get you started, or stocked up, we are having a Buy One Get One Felix Doolittle event. The weekend of April 21 to 23, stop in and pick out your favorite return address label set and get a second one free. Mix and match, grab one for you and one for a friend (to go with that Perfectly Personalized Crane stationery!), or just add them all to your collection, it’s up to you.

Finally…We are ending the month with a double points day! New this year, we are designating the months with a fifth Saturday as our double points days at both stores.  The first fifth Saturday happens to be in April. What perfect timing! On April 29 shop at both stores and double your Penny Perk points or Red Barn Rewards. If you get our newsletters then you’re signed up already. If not, then sign up today and start earning!

Owner Amy Rutherford started Red Barn because she wanted to deliver a service — to provide both old and new in one place. No longer will busy shoppers be limited to reproductions or forced to shop multiple flea markets for the look or gifts they want. The trick in blending old and new, vintage and modern, classic and quirky, is balance. And Amy’s knack for mixing rustic antiques with urban chic has created a look that is both fresh and familiar.

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, Penny Post is an independent boutique specializing in custom stationery and wedding invitations. Inspired by the art of personal correspondence, the power of handwritten notes, and the smell of freshly printed stationery, we surround ourselves with quirky, hilarious, and classically beautiful things to make life a little brighter.
